Sentencing Hearing for Driver Who Struck Cyclist Ken O'Day
About this event
At the Courthouse: Check the monitor in the cafe, or see the paper printout of all the hearings at the Information Desk to confirm the hearing room.
In 2024, a speeding driver, Logan Crotty, hit cyclist Ken O’Day while he was riding with friends, some of whom were from the Vancouver Bicycle Club. Ken suffered many life threatening injuries, including a stroke which occurred during emergency surgery. Mr. Crotty showed no remorse or concern for Ken after hitting him and even swore at Ken's distraught friends following the accident.
The defendant entered a guilty plea to felony vehicular assault on October 12th. His sentencing hearing is October 29th. Aunna, Ken's wife, wants the driver and judge to see us and hear our message: this case matters to the community! She would, therefore, be grateful for the help that only we can provide:
* Attend the hearing & bring a friend
* Wear cycling jerseys, yellow, etc. (even if you don’t bike to the courthouse)
Note: helmets/hats need to be removed before entering the courtroom
If the courtroom is full, we'll send a powerful message if we have cyclists in the foyer outside the door and in front of the courthouse. The Columbian newspaper will have a photographer at the hearing and plans to run an article on both this specific case and bicycle safety in Clark County in general. A reporter may be present.
If you cycle over, please lock your bike. A VBC member will wait outside the courthouse and watch over any bikes that are parked in the yard.
An optional VBC "Ride for Justice" (on the VBC Calendar) is scheduled after the hearing concludes... so please be flexible re: the ride timing! (Note: Registration is required for the VBC ride!)
Ken is working hard, every day, to recover and will greatly appreciate the cycling community's support at the sentencing hearing. Driver disregard for cyclists is an issue that impacts all of us. Ken, his family and friends all appreciate everyone who will be able to attend this hearing.
