DETAILS

This takes in several dead-ends that one does not ordinarily see on the typical Frenchman's Bar ride, and so adds some nice scenery and a few additional miles. If one looks at the route map and zooms out far enough, and uses your imagination, it looks a bit like a hand. If you can see that you could probably also name new stellar constellations.

What makes this different, and therefore interesting? The route continues into the wildlife area at the end of Laframbois Road, then we U-turn back. Another "finger" takes us to the end of the NW Erwin O Rieger Memorial Highway, which is essentially a continuance of NW Lower River Road past Vancouver Lake. U-turn again and we go out past Frenchman's Bar to the end of NW Lower River Road and the Shillapoo North Wildlife Area. U-turn again to the Bar for a restroom stop and return via Old Lower River Road. We'll finish up by impressing the tourists dining al fresco along Waterfront Way with our fitness and gleaming bicycles, then take the Vancouver Land Bridge back to the start.

This pleasant, generally flat ride includes low traffic roads, good bike lanes, paths and natural areas. It's the perfect way to relieve the workday stress.
