Greetings VBCers,

Thanks to those who joined this month's VBC meeting at the Aero Club. For those who couldn't attend, a quick note: I've volunteered to serve as the Advocacy Director on the VBC board.

In the 2025 membership survey, 59% of VBC members identified "Advocating for bicycle safety" as a top priority for the VBC board (the highest-ranking topic in the survey). Accordingly, VBC established a new board role to focus on this issue. I'm grateful to serve in this role and really excited about what we can do together for bicycling in Vancouver and Clark County.

If you have time in the next few weeks, I'd welcome the chance to connect with as many VBC members as possible as we consider specific advocacy priorities for VBC. If you're interested, I've set aside several 30-minute blocks on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays over the next few weeks for phone calls. You can SIGN UP HERE. Alternatively, please reach out at advocacy@vbc-usa.com (which forwards to me) and we can correspond asynchronously via email.

Overall, we're looking for feedback from VBC members on the following:
  • How are you personally willing to advocate for cycling in Vancouver? (e.g. submit written testimony to city/county/state, attend meetings, monitor neighborhood-specific bicycle issues, etc.)
  • What are the most effective ways for VBC, collectively, to advocate for bicycling in Vancouver, Washington, in 2026 and the decades to come?
  • Are there specific, easily-achievable bicycle-related improvements we can pursue right now?
  • What is a potential moonshot undertaking that we might pursue as a club?
I look forward to getting to know you all, riding together, and working to continue making Vancouver a world-class place to ride a bicycle.

Sincerely,
Joel Christiansen
