NOTE: Change due to fires! Here's an email from Bill.
All,
As you are probably all aware, there are still road and trail closures in the Gorge as a result of last summer’s Eagle Creek Fire. Several of these closures effect the upcoming CGE route. Today I was out in the Gorge trying to figure out alternate routing for day 4, from Viento Campground back to Washington. While I was there, I received the following notice :
https://bikeportland.org/2018/05/11/state-makes-rare-decision-to-close-cycling-through-columbia-rive
The short version of this notice is that the State is banning bicycles from Cascade Locks to Bridal Veil Falls, including riding on I-84, and routing any traffic over to the Washington side of the river. . This really impacts the nature of the tour and eliminated much of the scenic vistas and routes. Additionally there are only 12 people signed up for this year's ride.
As a result, I am going to close registration for the ride, and offer those of you who have already signed up, two options:
First, you can cancel, and we’ll issue a full refund.
Second, you can opt to do the ride on your own with the modified routing. I have already cancelled about half the campsites, but if you want to select this option, Please let me know before Sunday evening. because I’ll cancel the remaining campsites on Monday morning.
I am sorry to have to cancel this cycling classic, but hopefully it can return next year,
Regards,
Bill Hamilton

Our route travels east from Vancouver, through Camas and Washougal to Washougal River Rd. where we turn north and then east to join Highway 14. Once on Highway 14 we follow it with a few relatively flat side loops to take advantage of views, possible attractions and get an occasional break from Highway traffic. The day ends at a small county park campground with flush toilets, sinks but NO SHOWERS on the south side of Highway 14.
Day one of a four day tour.
Limit: 50 riders
